Cheats & Hints FAQ
Q: What is this FAQ all about?
A: It's a collection af the most frequently asked questions
concerning cheats, trainers, and other things you can find at Game
NOT Over, the cheat section of The Adrenaline Vault!
Q: And the "Cheat Essentials"?
A: There you will find explanations on the different kinds
of cheats and instructions on how to use them. You will also find
cheat "definitions" for those of you that are not familiar with
some of the terms used in describing cheats here at GNO. This is
also the place to download "base" programs that are required to
view/load many of the cheats featured at our site (including Universal
Hint System, and others).
Trainers
Q: Sometimes I see cheats for games that haven't been released
yet. How is that possible?
A: Some games are often released in other countries before
they hit American shelves. The trainers will usually work on both
International and American versions of the game (when finally released).
Sometimes cheats are created for use with DEMO versions of the game
and not actually for the final version.
Q: Why won't the "XX" trainer work with my game?
A: The most frequent reason that trainers and cheats appear
to be "not working" is due to incompatibility with different versions
of the game. Trainers are created to alter specific memory addresses
within the game. When game companies update their releases, this
usually alters the memory locations. Other reasons may include unzipping
the cheat into the wrong directory, etc.
Cheats/Solves
Q: I typed the codes in the game but nothing happened, what am
I doing wrong?
A: The most frequent reason that trainers and cheats appear
to be "not working" is due to incompatibility with different versions
of the game. When game companies update their releases with patches,
they sometimes remove or change pre-programmed cheat codes.
Q: What is a HexCheat? And what program do I use?
A: Take a look at the Cheat Essentials for an explanation.
Hex editing is something that takes a bit of practice to master and can easily corrupt files you are working
with if you are not extremely careful.
Q: I followed the instructions in your solve but I still can't
get past this level. How do I find "XX"?
A: Your best bet for finding specialized help on a particular
area in a game is to check the AVault
Newsgroups or the USENET newsgroups (which you can search by
going to DejaNews). We cannot
provide individualized help on a particular part of a game (usually
because we have never played the game).
Q: Do you write the solves/guides yourselves?
A: No. All of the cheats and solves contained within our
site have been submitted by our readers. You may contact them if
their email address is attached to the cheat/solve you have questions
about.
