Audio Problems

The King's Quest Collection may have some audio problems.

Problem - Poor Audio Quality:
The music in some of the games is of poor quality.

Solution #1 (preferred):
Install the DOSBox 0.70 update.

Solution #2:
Open the "RESOURCE.CFG" file in the game's folder and change

soundDrv = GENMIDI.DRV

Note: the folder must already have a GENMIDI.DRV file in it. It will not work to copy it from another folder.

Speed problems

As with many of the Sierra VGA games, some of the games in the The King's Quest Collection have speed bugs. These bugs can also be avoided by playing the game in DOSBox. If you can't or don't want to use DOSBox, you can try using a Slowdown Utility, but may give unsatisfactory results.

Here is a list of problems with solutions/workarounds.

Problem - Firecracker Speed Bug:
Can't move Valanice fast enough before the fire cracker blows up.

Solution #1 (preferred):
Apply this patch and play the game in DOSBox.

Solution #2:
Use a Slowdown Utility.

Solution #3:
Keep retrying. Each attempt will bring Valanice closer. Eventually you will get there.
