New Installers for Sierra DOS Games

For Sierra Windows only games, see SquirtTheCat for new XP/Vista installers

DOSBox is the perfect solution for many of Sierra's classic DOS games. It provides the environment that the games were written for. It shields you from the many timer bugs that plague these games on modern PCs. Though it is easy to use, many feel intimidated by the task of setting the games up in DOSBox. Help is here. I have written some new installers that will automatically set the games up to start in DOSBox from a Windows shortcut. These installers do not include any games -- you must own the original game discs to use these installers.

Just insert your game CD in your drive and run the installer. You will be given a choice to let the installer download and install DOSBox, ScummVM or VDMSound where appropriate.

Note: If you do not have DOSBox installed in "Program Files\DOSBox" move it there or let the setup install there for you. DOSBox can then be upgraded whenever future versions are released by installing them to this same folder. The shortcuts that the installer creates will still work with the new DOSBox.

Floppy games can be installed by copying the files from the disks into a folder on your harddrive and running the installer from that folder. This makes it possible to install on a computer that has no floppy drive, just copy the files over from a PC that does.

Note for Vista users: Avoid installing these games in the "Program Files" folder. Write access to this folder is limited, which has proven to cause issues with older games.

DOSBox Installers for Sierra collections:

  • King's Quest Collection Series (1997). The 2nd King's Quest collection:
    • Disc 1 for DOSBox - Installs King's Quest, King's Quest I SCI, King's Quest II and King's Quest III, King's Quest IV and King's Quest VII. Also can install all of the extras included with the 2nd collection, such as the Apple][ games.
    • Disc 2 for DOSBox - Installs King's Quest V and King's Quest VI.
    • Disc 3 for DOSBox - Installs The Dagger of Amon Ra and Mixed-up Mother Goose Deluxe.
  • Police Quest 4 Most Wanted for DOSBox

Remember, DOSBox can be made full screen at anytime by pressing Alt+Enter. Best of all, no CD is required to play the games, just to install them. I will be making more over time and will consider requests.
